The name Irukai is a compound word derived of two things I consider myself to be:

Iru
I am (figuratively) of the kaja Iru in the sense of C.S. Friedman's universe, as described in her novel This Alien Shore. There is an excellent fansite which describes this and other novels of C.S. Friedman.
Additionally, I identify somewhat with kaja Rusa as well, being that I am of a dual nature. At science fiction conventions, I appear in the makeup of the kaja with which I identify, and even had the pleasure of having lunch with C.S. Friedman in Iru makeup.

Kai
This describes my relationship with this name better than I ever could:
When people look at the name Kai, they might ask the question, "is Kai a man or a woman?", or "what is the gender of the name Kai?"

Irukai
Mongol for "caterpillar".

I am a licensed Emergency Medical Technician, short, the life partner of the lovely 13machinations, cat lover, jack of all high tech trades, former dotcommer, worldbuilder, science fiction geek, legal vampire, and pre-nursing student. One day in the far future I anticipate medical school. I want to be an anatomic pathologist when I grow up - and failing that, a nurse practicioner, biologist, weird professor, author, or something of the sort, or perhaps I'll find a way to be all of the above.
